How to Prepare for a Professional House Cleaning

If you’ve ever felt like you need to clean before your cleaner arrives, let me take that off your list. You don’t need to scrub the bathroom or vacuum for me.

A little preparation helps me reach the areas you want cleaned and spend more of your appointment on the cleaning itself. Here’s what’s helpful before I arrive.

Clear What You Can

Putting away everyday items gives me room to clean underneath and around them.

If you have a few minutes, start with these:

• Put away dishes and clear the kitchen sink.
• Move mail, chargers, and personal items off counters.
• Pick up clothes, shoes, and toys from the floors.
• Clear what you can from bathroom counters and shower ledges.
• Put fragile or valuable items somewhere secure.

You don’t have to organize every drawer or find a perfect home for everything. Focus on the surfaces and floors you’d like me to clean.

If picking things up is part of what you need help with, let me know before your appointment so I can plan for it.

Leave the Scrubbing to Me

There’s no need to wipe the counters, mop, or scrub the toilet before I get there. Those are the kinds of tasks you’re booking help with.

I bring my own cleaning supplies and equipment, too. If you have a preferred product for a particular surface, tell me ahead of time and leave it out with instructions.

Tell Me What Matters to You

Every home has its own routines and little details. Maybe there’s a desk you’d like left alone, a delicate surface that needs special care, or one area you’re especially hoping I’ll focus on.

Please let me know about:

• Rooms or belongings that are off limits.
• Surfaces that need specific products or care.
• Anything loose, damaged, or especially fragile.
• Your biggest cleaning priorities.

I'll talk through with you what fits your booked service before I begin. You don’t need to write a long list. A few notes can be enough.

Make a Comfortable Plan for Your Pets

I love pets, and knowing about them ahead of time helps the visit go smoothly.

Please add their names, where they’ll be, and anything I should know to your booking notes. If they’re nervous around vacuums or likely to head for an open door, that’s helpful information.

During the clean, keep them in a secure, comfortable place away from the areas I’m working in, such as a separate room or their usual crate. If that room also needs cleaning, I can work out the order with you ahead of time.

Let Me Know How to Get In

You don’t have to stay home during your appointment. Just arrange access before I arrive.

A door code, lockbox, or garage keypad can work. Include any parking or entry instructions, and let me know if there’s an alarm I need to be aware of.

If you’d prefer to be there for your first visit and walk through the space together, that’s welcome too. I can go over your priorities and any questions with you before I start.
