The Ultimate Room-by-Room Deep Cleaning Checklist

Sometimes the everyday cleaning is getting done, but you’re still noticing dusty baseboards, marks on cabinet fronts, or buildup around bathroom fixtures. Those are the details I focus on during a deeper clean.

If you’re tackling it yourself, this checklist can help you work through one room at a time. You don’t have to finish the whole house in a day—start with the area you’d be happiest to have done.

Kitchen

I like to clear the counters first so there’s room to work, then clean from higher surfaces down toward the floor.

Here are the areas worth a closer look:

• Cabinet fronts and handles.
• Countertops and backsplash, including corners and edges.
• Stovetop and accessible range hood surfaces.
• Microwave interior and exterior.
• Sink and faucet, including buildup around the base.
• Appliance fronts and handles.
• Accessible gaps beside appliances.
• Baseboards and floor edges.

Inside the oven, refrigerator, and cabinets may need attention too. Those are separate tasks to plan for, whether you’re doing them yourself or adding them to a booking.

Choose products suited to your finishes and follow the appliance care instructions.

Bathrooms

In the bathroom, I give extra attention to the places where everyday wiping leaves buildup behind.

Work through:

• Shower walls, tub, and fixtures.
• Soap buildup on shower doors.
• Grout lines and shower door tracks.
• Sink, faucet, and the area around its base.
• Toilet bowl, exterior, base, and accessible space behind it.
• Vanity fronts and handles.
• Mirrors and accessible light fixtures.
• Accessible exhaust fan covers.
• Baseboards, floor edges, and corners.

Some marks come from worn finishes or damage and won’t disappear with cleaning. If something isn’t lifting, check the surface-care instructions before trying a stronger product or more scrubbing.

Bedrooms

Bedrooms often need attention around the edges and underneath things.

I’d start with:

• Dusting furniture, including edges and lower shelves.
• Wiping baseboards and door frames.
• Dusting accessible ceiling fans and light fixtures.
• Cleaning blinds according to their care instructions.
• Wiping window sills and detailing tracks.
• Vacuuming beneath the bed where you can reach.
• Cleaning floor edges and corners.

Putting away clothes and personal items first makes these areas easier to reach. There’s no need to reorganize your entire closet before you start.

Living Areas

In shared spaces, pay attention to the spots that collect dust and crumbs while everyone goes about their day.

Check:

• Shelves, tables, and other accessible surfaces.
• Furniture legs and lower edges.
• Beneath sofa cushions, following the upholstery care instructions.
• Baseboards, doors, and handles.
• Accessible fans, fixtures, and blinds.
• Window sills and tracks.
• Under furniture where you can safely reach.
• Floors, especially corners and the edges of rugs.

Leave heavy furniture in place unless you have appropriate help to move it. You can still make useful progress in the areas you can reach.

Work in an Order That Saves Effort

I start with higher surfaces and finish with the floors. That way, any dust that falls gets picked up at the end.

Choose one room or a few tasks, gather what you need, and work through them before moving on. Taking breaks or spreading the work across several days is completely fine.

My Signature Clean includes regular cleaning tasks plus details such as baseboards, door frames, light switches, cabinet fronts, window sills, and window track detailing. Detailed cleaning of light fixtures and ceiling fans is part of my Full Care Clean.

Interior window glass cleaning is separate and can be added for $5 per window. Appliance interiors and other extras should be selected according to your package and what you need done.
